In order to provide parents and other community members
the opportunity to visit classrooms with maximum value to the visitors
and with the least interruption to the teaching/learning process, the
following procedures are set forth:
- Visitors to a school and/or a classroom shall confer with a building
administrator to discuss the purpose of the visit and how that purpose
may best be met.
- If the visit is to a classroom, the time will be arranged after the
administrator has conferred privately with the teacher. A pre-visit
conference with the teacher may be required by the administrator. A
post-visit conference will be scheduled by the administrator if requested
by either the visitor or the teacher.
- Visitation rights to particular classes or students may occasionally
be denied by the administrator on the basis of a court order, when the
number of visitors at any one time is deemed to interfere with proper
classroom atmosphere, when testing is scheduled, when health and safety
conditions for a particular activity would be adversely affected by
visitors or for any other reason deemed sufficient by the administrator.
- Where misunderstanding about visitation rights between a visitor
and a district employee is not resolvable at the building level, the
visitor may request a hearing with the superintendent or designee. When
requested, such a hearing will be scheduled within five (5) school days
of receipt of a written request and a written decision will be sent
to each party within five (5) school days following the hearing.
