9030-R1 - PROCEDURES FOR VISITING SCHOOLS AND FACILITIES

In order to provide parents and other community members the opportunity to visit classrooms with maximum value to the visitors and with the least interruption to the teaching/learning process, the following procedures are set forth:
- Visitors to a school and/or a classroom shall confer with a building administrator to discuss the purpose of the visit and how that purpose may best be met.
- If the visit is to a classroom, the time will be arranged after the administrator has conferred privately with the teacher. A pre-visit conference with the teacher may be required by the administrator. A post-visit conference will be scheduled by the administrator if requested by either the visitor or the teacher.
- Visitation rights to particular classes or students may occasionally be denied by the administrator on the basis of a court order, when the number of visitors at any one time is deemed to interfere with proper classroom atmosphere, when testing is scheduled, when health and safety conditions for a particular activity would be adversely affected by visitors or for any other reason deemed sufficient by the administrator.
- Where misunderstanding about visitation rights between a visitor
and a district employee is not resolvable at the building level, the
visitor may request a hearing with the superintendent or designee. When
requested, such a hearing will be scheduled within five (5) school days
of receipt of a written request and a written decision will be sent
to each party within five (5) school days following the hearing.
