It is the policy of Edmonds School District to accept its responsibility for the education of the district's youth and the prudent operation of the school system. The Board of Directors recognizes that the schools belong to the people of the community and believes that intelligent and informed support of schools is possible only when the public has full knowledge, understanding and participation in the goals, programs, and policies of the schools. The Board is aware of its responsibility to provide the public with information and opportunities leading to participating, directly or indirectly, in the establishment of policies and programs that are in the best interest of the young people of Edmonds School District.
The Board encourages a district communications program that will:
- focus attention on the fact that students and their classroom learning activities and instruction are the major functions of the school district;
- encourage and enhance communication, understanding, trust and mutual support between the district and people it serves;
- increase the quality and quantity of public participation in school affairs, activities, and programs;
- promote understanding, cooperation and mutual trust between schools and their many publics;
- continue a planned, systematic, two-way process between the Board and superintendent, and the community and the district's employees; and
- emphasize the importance of all employees expressing a positive attitude
toward the district in their daily contact with other staff members,
parents, students, and people of the community and their responsibility
to promote good school community relations.
