Board Authority
It is the policy of Edmonds School District that the Board of Directors,
as a body created under law by the State of Washington, is vested by statute
with far-reaching, locally autonomous and final authority in all matters
concerned with public elementary and secondary school education within
the district and within the limitations of federal and state laws and
interpretations of them.
Board Duties
The Board of Directors is the educational policy-making body with powers
derived from the State of Washington and the electorate of the school
district. Its duties are to formulate and interpret educational policies,
to delegate administrative duties, and to make a continuing appraisal
of educational progress in the district.
The Board shall concern itself primarily with broad questions of policy,
planning and development.
The major specific functions and responsibilities of the Board are set
forth in the Board of Directors' Job Description.
Personal Liability of Directors
Washington State law specifies that school directors shall be personally
liable for any expenditures which exceed the approved final budget total.
