Destination ImagiNation®
Destination ImagiNation® (DI) is a creative problem solving program that teaches kids to solve problems creatively and to solve problems using a team effort. Destination ImagiNation® gives kids a chance to expand on the skills and knowledge they have learned in class, albeit in a non-traditional way.
Destination ImagiNation® teams are composed of a maximum of 7 students who usually meet once a week after school or on the weekend. Students are usually teamed with students in their classroom or grade. Teams are helped by volunteer team managers or "coaches".
Each DI team chooses a challenge to "solve" and creates an 8 minute play, with props and costumes to present at a local tournament. The students must make everything, props, costumes and all!. Team meetings to build props and make costumes usually begin in December or January.
Teams compete in the North Sound Regional Tournament in March and possibly the State Tournament in April. Teams that place first in their challenge at the Regional Tournament will go on to State! Terrace Park students have gone to the State tournament four times in the last five years! Past Terrace Park students have also gone to the Global Finals, which is held in May.
The Terrace Park PTA sponsors Terrace Park's DI teams. In recent years, Terrace Park has entered as many as seven teams in the Regional tournament.
