The Character Trait

for February is...

Diversity Children's Diversity Pledge

I believe all kids are different and special in their own way

I believe all kids deserve to be loved, accepted, and respected for who they are.

I will work on being a good friend, so all children feel welcome around me

I will not judge people because of where they live, the color of their skin, how they dress, their abilities, their spiritual beliefs, or whether they are a girl or a boy.

This month we are emphasizing examples of Diversity. Diversity means understanding not only one’s own culture and heritage but also empathizing with others about their own history. More people are beginning to understand that - though there may be many things that are different about each of us - there is still much that is the same. We can see diversity in our homes and in the way we present ourselves to others and in our daily lives.

You can exercise diversity in your community by attending neighborhood celebrations and festivals, trying new foods and learning about other countries in addition to those in which you are already familiar with. Diversity can also mean tolerance or understanding. Accepting another person for who they are and not by their looks, gender or religion. We are fortunate to have a very diverse community at LWE and we will celebrate our diversity at our FAME event on June 6th 2008.
