Architecture and Living Spaces Around the World
An iEARN collaborative project
Architecture surrounds us. Defined simply architecture is the creation of space for human use. It includes space around buildings as well as space inside buildings.
We experience architecture as we go about our daily lives, and we are deeply influenced by what we see, hear, and feel. Our homes, churches, schools, museums and shopping malls are all examples of the architecture in which we live, work, learn and play.

Architecture is dynamic. Traditional styles, colors, and building materials vary from region to region, from nation to nation, and from time to time according to different needs, different resources and all the different ways that we see and do things.
From the cave dweller to the astronaut, all humans in their own unique ways have interacted with architecture.

This project will allow us to explore the architecture that is around us: thus we will be able to better understand the history of the places we visit and the changing needs of societies. In this project we will share what we have seen and learned. We encourage you to take

pictures and share with us what you have discovered for a better global understanding.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Christine Kolstoe at Kolstoec@edmonds.wednet.edu

Goals: This project aims at developing an understanding of the cultures and how people have lived in the past, how they live today and how they may attempt to live in the future. It is promoting cultural understanding around the world by linking students together in a study of architectures and how it fulfills human needs across time and cultures.

Classes are encouraged to work with agencies like Habitat for Humanity International http://www.habitat.org/ to help build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.

The Mission of the Edmonds School District is "to advocate for all students by providing a learning environment which empowers students, staff and the community to maximize their personal, creative and academic potential in order to become lifelong learners and responsible world citizens."
