The STARS Grant Process

Grant proposals should support the enhancement of the Edmonds Elementary instructional program.  The goal may be achieved through grants for activities, which involve students in creative and educational programs before, during or after school.  It might also include special family or parent learning programs.

Things You Should Know About Grants:

*      Grants are awarded twice each school year, fall and spring

*      Grants are typically written by teachers but can also be written by parent volunteers or staff members

*      A single person or a group working together may make application

*      Grants can be for an individual classroom our group of classes.  They need not benefit the entire school.

*      All equipment or non-consumable materials purchased as part of the project remain the property of the STARS Foundation and therefore must remain at Edmonds Elementary.

*      Grants are awarded on merit and in consideration of funds available.  Partial funding may be provided in some cases.

*      STARS funds enrichment programs and can only grant facilities items when they relate directly to the program (e.g. art carts)

*      Notification of a request for Grants is made 1 month prior to grant review in the Orca News

*      Grant proposals are available for review in the office for 1 week prior to Board Grant review

*      If your Grant is awarded, you will be expected to submit a report to the STARS board at the completion of your project.  The report should include brief explanation of the project, and assessment, and provide a visual display of your project.  This display may include photos or student samples.  These displays are valuable for future fund raising events.

Criteria for Grant Proposals:

These criteria should be used as a guide as you write your applications.

*      Applicant

*      Date

*      Phone

*      Position

*      Subject Area

*      Project Title

*      Amount Requested

*      Describe the specific purpose of the project

*      What specifically do you plan to do, and how?

*      How does the project benefit the students and/or parents of Edmonds Elementary?

*      Will community resources or organizations be involved in this project?

*      Budget:

    Budgets must show sufficient detail, e.g. price lists, shipping, etc.  Vague or incomplete budgets do not demonstrate adequate planning.  The committee rarely funds transportation, substitutes, film, office equipment, or food.  Itemize the use of funds as well.

*      Will additional (non-STARS Foundation) funds be required?  If so, describe the amount required and the source of other funds.

*      Will follow-on maintenance costs be associated with this project?  What is the plan for these maintenance costs?

*      Give us a proposed timeline for your project

*      Please type the following onto the bottom of your proposal.

            “I certify that if approved, the STARS Foundation funds I am requesting will be used only for the purpose indicated in this application.  I will submit my project evaluation to the STARS Foundation upon completion of the project.”

*      All applications are signed and approved by both the Applicant and the Principal of Edmonds Elementary.
