About Cedar Way
School
To
create a learning community which fosters the development of responsible
individuals who embrace the world as thoughtful, knowledgeable, skillful,
contributing citizens.
Setting Higher Standards/How We
Are Improving
Cedar
Way is engaged in a number of restructuring efforts. The school has been
involved for over 14 years in the Edmonds Math Project, a hands‑on,
concept‑oriented mathematics program consistent with National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics standards. Block Grant and staff development dollars
for several years have been targeted at improving student performance in
reading, writing and mathematics, using the Edmonds School District Frameworks
as a guide. Teaching staff is organized into "learning teams" to
accomplish this work.
Cedar
Way teachers are also actively engaged in the development of multidisciplinary
units of instruction. For example – Architecture and Children, Medieval
Studies, Egyptian and Northwest History (Storypath)
have been taught, as well as Environmental Education, Each of these units
includes a strong emphasis on integrating the arts (visual and performing).
Students
in 5th and 6th grade have the opportunity to participate
in band and orchestra, and students in 4th, 5th, and 6th,
grades can join Honor Choir.
What is a Performance Report?
Each
school in our district has created a performance report in compliance with 1993
state education reform legislation. The
information provided is a snapshot of what Cedar Way Elementary has to offer
you and your child.
