New students are screened, and existing students may be referred to the SST.  Placement results from a recommendation from an SST meeting.  Behavior problems are not the lone criteria for placement in the academy.

ITBS – Reading/Language at 25% or below

WASL – under 300 in Reading and/or Writing
Deficits in reading of more than 2 years (according Star or Gates McGinite Test)

Placement in Academy is with Special Services Team consensus

2. Options – Short term placement, then back to home school

3. Resolve – Long term placement EBD program

Teachers refer students to SST as follows:

· Make formal recommendation by submitting a completed referral form to SST

· Collect documentation/work samples/test results (ITBS, WASL, STAR, Levels) to support referral

· Contact parent regarding consideration

· Attend SST meeting

IEP – Referred to special Education department for appropriate placement
504 Plan – Use listed indicators in conjunction with 540 plan to establish appropriate placement (Note: 504 Plan does not automatically equate to Academy placement)
