Social Equity
Alderwood Middle School is striving to become Socially Equitable, democratic
and fair. Every student will be provided high quality teachers,
resources, learning opportunities and supports.
Our work will be guided by the following beliefs:
- The staff expects high-quality work from all students and is committed
to helping each student produce it. Tutoring, mentoring, accommodations
and other supports will be provided.
- The students will be afforded a variety of strategies to achieve
and demonstrate their mastery of local, state and national standards.
- The curriculum, instructional strategies, assessment practices, and
structure supports will be flexible in order to address each student's
diverse and evolving needs.
- All students will have access to rigorous content knowledge and applied
learning skills in all classes and activities.
- All students will have opportunities to learn about and appreciate
their own and others' cultures. We will value knowledge from the
diverse cultures represented in our school, community, nation, and
world.
- The learning community will welcome and encourage active participation
from all our families.
- The staff will pay close attention to academic, attendance and disciplinary
data to ensure proportionality to the student population.
